The Institute of Practical Psychology and Psychoanalysis is an educational institution that trains highly qualified specialists in the field of psychology, clinical psychology, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
The education at the Institute is aimed at training psychologists, primarily as practitioners who can effectively find solutions to psychological problems.
The Institute relies on the international experience of training mental health professionals in setting the educational process.
This is achieved through organizing theoretical classes accompanied by training and practice in a way that students could professionally master the skills of counseling and psychotherapy work in the very course of training.
The Institute started its educational activities in 1991. It used to have a different name then: the Academic School of Professional Psychology.
The programs as well as the faculty were mostly foreign at the time, since there were no qualified specialists in our country yet.
Eventually, Russian psychologists who had passed additional psychotherapeutic trainings in European institutes of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis started teaching as well. This made it possible to create higher education programs which were fundamentally new for our country regarding their approaches and orientation. |
They combine the requirements of the state educational standard for the "Psychology" and "Clinical Psychology" programs with the worldwide established methods of training counseling psychologists and psychotherapists.
This allows students to acquire fundamental knowledge in the modern scientific psychology as well as to master practical skills for working in the field of psychological counseling and psychotherapy. |
Our institute is the leader among higher education institutions in terms of the scale and number of practical courses taught. These are training seminars including analysis of clinical cases taken from the teachers' practice, counseling and psychotherapy trainings, video trainings, workshops and supervision. The individual approach is the distinctive feature of our clinical trainings as the teacher supervises and corrects each student's work.
Professional courses created and taught at the Institute are unique and they are not taught in other educational institutions.
The faculty of the Institute consists of well-known Russian scientists, research associates in the Department of Psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University and at the Institute of Psychology of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Clinical courses are taught by experienced psychotherapists and psychoanalysts.
They confirmed their professional level by passing the professional exam and entering in the most prestigious international professional societies as the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), the European Federation of Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy (EFPP), the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA); the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP), the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), the European Association for Dance/movement Therapy, and European Group Analytic Training Institutions Network (EGATIN). |
Among our teachers are presidents and members of such reputable Russian organizations as the Moscow Psychoanalytic Society, the Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, the Society of Family Counsellors and Therapists, the Russian Association for Dance/movement Therapy, and the Russian Analytic Psychology Society.
We regularly invite well-known foreign specialists in clinical psychology, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to take part in the teaching process at our Institute.
For many years, the Institute has been the base for psychotherapy programs conducted by leading international psychotherapy societies.
The knowledge and skills acquired in the course of training are reinforced during clinical practice, which includes diagnostic, consulting and psycho-correctional work in medical institutions and psychological counseling organizations. It is aimed at providing psychological assistance to real clients, so experienced psychotherapists teaching at the Institute supervise it at all stages.
The Institute has permanent platforms for practice:
All interested students are provided an opportunity to practice as volunteer psychologists on our platforms.
We hold annual student conferences on the results of the internship where students make clinical presentations about their work. After receiving a higher psychological education, students can complete a psychotherapy specialization course during one of the professional retraining programs. This allows to master the chosen type of psychotherapy in a more profound way. Psychotherapy training in these programs meets the requirements of the international professional associations. |
The Institute has a specialized library on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, which is the fullest library among those of other higher education institutions. Many of the articles and books it contains have not been ever published in Russia and were translated into Russian by the Institute's staff.
Since 1995, the Institute has been publishing materials on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis including those of reputed specialists whose books are widely known in the international professional community but have not been published in Russia yet.
The Institute participated in translation, scientific editing and publication of more than 80 books. |
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Institute, a specialized series of books on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis is launched to be published.
For many years, the Institute has been hosting a scientific and practical website for electronic publications entitled The Journal of Practical Psychology and Psychoanalysis. It became widely known and recognized in the professional circles. Not only authors - both Russian and foreign - attend the Journal: students and the faculty of the Institute publish there the results of their research and clinical practice. The Institute annually hosts a Scientific and Practical Conference of students, young professionals and teachers. The reports presented there are based on the speakers' own experience of clinical work and reflect the results of their research in various fields of practical psychology and psychotherapy. The Institute has a Psychological counseling unit, which is a place where teachers and students conduct psychotherapeutical work with clients and research and clinical studies in psychotherapy. They provide psychological support to all social groups. Over the years, our Institute has gained a high profile as an educational and scientific and practice center in Russia and abroad. Numerous commendations mark the high level of professional training of students and graduates of the Institute, as well as their work as counseling psychologists. Most of our graduates successfully engage in private practice as counseling psychologists and work as psychotherapists in medical and psychological centers. |
